How do I add a photo or video to a log?

In the Carer App, learn how to attach a picture or video clip to a log.

Adding media like photos or videos to a log is a great way to provide more evidence for something or just to capture a moment. When you take a photo or video clip in the app, that media and all of its data is secure within the app and nothing is left behind on the device.

Before you can add any photos or videos to a log, you'll need to check what media permissions are enabled for your service. If attaching photos and videos have already been allowed, you can skip straight to adding media to your logs.


Check your media permissions in the Care Office

Admins can choose whether or not they want to allow photos and/or videos to be attached to a log by following the below steps.

Step 1: Go to the 'Preferences' tab in Settings in the Care Office

Step 2: Scroll down to 'More Privacy Settings' and select your preferred media permissions

You can choose to allow

  • only photos

  • only videos

  • both photos and videos

  • neither photos nor videos

to be attached to logs. You can also decide to not allow any media to be added to logs.

Step 3: Save changes

Don't forget to save the changes (bottom right corner) before exiting the page.


Add media to your logs

When you’re writing a log, just follow these easy steps, to add a photo or short video clip to it.

Before you do this, make sure you have media consent from all the people you intend to capture on the picture or video!

​Step 1: Press the camera icon

At the end of writing up a log you have the option to add a media to it. Just tap the camera icon next to ‘Add Media’

Step 2: Choose ‘Open Camera’

Next, you’ll see the option to ‘Take a photo', 'Take a video' or ‘Upload from Library’.

If you select ‘Take a photo' or 'Take a video' it will mean the photograph or video clip you take is securely stored in the app and you can only view the media when signed in.

Step 3: Access to the camera and microphone

If this the first time a photo or video is being taken on the app with this device, you’ll then be asked for permission to access the camera and if you want to take a video also the microphone. Press ‘OK’.

If you’ve pressed ‘Don’t Allow’ you will need to change this in the devices’ settings to add media. 

Step 4: Take a photo or short video clip

The camera will then pop up for you to take a photo / video. Once you press 'Use Photo' or 'Use Video' it will be attached to the log.

Note: You can only attach video clips with a length of 30 seconds or under. The app will stop your recording once the maximum length has been reached.

Step 5: Attach more media or remove media

To attach another photo / video, press the camera icon again or the ‘+’ square button, there is a limit of 3 media per log.

You can remove media by selecting the image / video and pressing ‘Remove Media’. 

Step 6: Save log

Once you’re happy with the media you can go ahead and hit save.

To see the photo / video in the app, simply press the ‘View Photo’ / 'View Video' button in the logs description.

How do I delete media from a log once its been saved?

If you have attached a photo or video to a log in error, you will not be able to delete this in-app or via the Care Office. You will need to reach out to our Customer Support team via live chat or email support@logmycare.co.uk and a ticket will be raised with our wonderful tech team who can perform the deletion.
