There are several ways in which you can configure an Android smartphone to be most effective when using Log my Care. These instructions are based on a Samsung and all completely optional.
Step 1 - Screen timeout
First, you'll generally want to make the screen timeout time longer than it currently is. Carers need to re-enter their pin every time the screen turns off so it's best if that's not while they're in the middle of something. We recommend setting to 1 minute to strike a good balance between ease of use and battery life.
First, open the Settings app
And then enter the settings for display
Then with 'Screen Timeout', set to "After 1 minute of inactivity"
Step 2 - Device security
Next, you'll probably want to remove the security from the device itself. Don't worry, the App is still well-protected by it's own Pin code but it would take much more time for your carers to have to unlock both the device and then the App each time they wanted to create a log.
Again, enter the Settings app
Then 'Lock screen and security'
Then change 'Screen lock type' to "Swipe". You'll need to enter the device's current pin for this to take effect.
Step 3 - Install Swiftkey keyboard
The standard Android keyboard often doesn't let carers enter decimal places for numerical logs (e.g. a weight of 72.4kg). To get round this, we recommend Swiftkey, which you can download from the App Store.
Step 4 - Lock down the device with kiosk mode
You may want to limit the device to only being able to use our app. We've written a separate article, which you can find here.
