What’s Happening?

Starting in September 2024, the Carer App will no longer run or be supported on smartphones and tablets that are not running a minimum operating system. For immediate context, this minimum operating system was released in 2015.

The minimum operating system requirements for the Carer App are as follows:

Android devices (Google, Samsung, Amazon, Huawei):

Android version 6.0 and later

iOS devices (Apple devices):

iOS version 13.4 and later

Why Is This Happening?

Firstly, we understand that for those affected, this situation is very inconvenient. This is particularly true for those who are unable to update their existing devices or update without incurring a cost.

At Log my Care, we always prioritise, and will continue to prioritise, data safety and cybersecurity.

Keeping our software up-to-date with the operating systems built by Apple and Google is crucial for this safety.

When a particular operating system is no longer supported (and therefore does not receive security updates), we also need to adhere to these requirements and follow suit.

Will This Impact Me?
The devices most impacted will be those purchased during or before 2014. If you believe your device was purchased after 2014, ensure you're running an operating system later than the versions mentioned above (Android 6.0 or iOS 13.4).

How Do I Check My Operating System Version?

Which Devices Will No Longer Be Supported by the Carer App?

  • Android devices purchased before 2015 are unlikely to update to Android 6.0 or later.

  • Android is compatible with thousands of different devices; therefore, we’re unable to provide guidance or a specific compatible device list.

  • iOS devices purchased before 2014 will not be able to update to iOS 13.4 or later.

  • See a list of all iOS devices and their maximum OS online here

I Think My Device Is at Risk, What Can I Do?

As a first step, try to update your operating system. Please find instructions on how to do this provided by Apple and Android below:

What will happen if i cannot update my operating system?

You’ll no longer be able to update the Carer App past Android: V3.38.0 and Apple iOS: This means:

  • You’ll no longer benefit from security, technical, or bug fix updates.

  • You’ll no longer benefit from free care management feature releases.

  • If you uninstall the Carer App, you may not be able to reinstall it on your device.

  • When Rostering is launched, you will not be able to purchase it as an add-on to your plan.

What’s the quickest way to upgrade my device?

You can purchase brand-new compatible devices nationwide, from Amazon, Apple stores, Argos, or your local Tesco.

Alternatively, through our device partner Klyk, you'll be able to purchase refurbished devices at a lower cost—fully functioning and environmentally sustainable smartphones, tablets, and more.
