The Needs & Skills Matrix is a report that helps you understand whether your team has the right skills and training to support the needs of your service users.
It shows how many team members have the skills relevant to each need, giving you a clear overview and helping you identify any gaps in training or staffing.
Our needs, skills and training compliance tools explained
Needs, Skills, and Training are managed in separate sections of Care Office, but they work together within the Needs & Skills Matrix.
Needs record the support requirements of your service users.
Skills record the abilities and qualifications of your team members.
Training records completed training and renewal dates where applicable.
Each need is linked to a parent category. That category also appears in the matrix, so you can easily see whether you have enough trained staff for each type of need.
What the matrix shows đ
The matrix provides a clear comparison between service user needs and team member skills. It can help you see:
How many service users have a particular need.
Which category each need belongs to.
How many team members have the matching skill or training.
Where there may be gaps in support.
Which areas may need more training or staffing.
Why this is useful đĄ
The Needs & Skills Matrix gives you a clear overview of your service in one place.
You can use it to:
Make sure service users are supported by suitably skilled team members.
Identify training needs early.
Plan recruitment based on the needs of your service users.
Check that each category of need has enough staff coverage.
Keeping needs, skills and training up to date will help the matrix give you a picture of how well your team can support the people in your care.
